Um...right. Not so sweet when it's 96 degrees out there and you're swinging a hammer.
Voice mail on my phone at work a few weeks ago from my lovely, ever so humorous daughter. "Um, Mom? Hi. It's me. A tree fell on the house. I think you should call me."
She thought it would be funny to leave me that message. I explained just how unfunny it was when I talked to her. Two large branches came off the pecan tree out front. One landed on the roof. The upper one. It sheared off the one directly underneath it too, but that one remained attached to the tree by a wide strip of bark. We're talking branches that were at least 20 feet up the tree. The one still attached...the tips of it were rest on the ground in the front yard. Big sucker!
No damage to the exterior of the roof, for which I am eternally grateful. However, it took off most of the rain gutter and most of the fascia board on the front of the porch section of the roof, along with slightly separating the porch section of the roof from the main gable. Lovely.
So, guess what I've been doing? Yep, ripping out and replacing the porch roof. I'm not a roofer. Never done it before. However, I was able to plan out what I thought needed to be done. Dee came over one day last week after work, took a look, and listened to me describe what I thought I needed to do to fix it. She said I was right on the money. Offered to come and help. I said no, it's ok. I think I can handle it. And I can.
But damn. I'm tired. Hopefully it will be finished tomorrow. Hopefully.
Crawling into a steaming hot tub with a buttload of bubbles. Just because I want to! LOL

Women who walk softly and carry a big hammer.. YOWZAH!!!
hehehehe
walk softly and carry a big hammer, eh? I remember when I was told that I was "entirely too butch" as though it were something distasteful. *shrug* I like fixing things, building things. I like doing girly things too, but I'm much happier in jeans and a t-shirt, swinging a hammer or running a chainsaw. If being too butch is what I am, so be it. I figure I'm just me.
